WE Innovate 2025 celebrated its winning ventures, with Aeropod by Muju Earth and Dainty Grace clinching the top prizes. Aeropod, a soil regeneration startup from Imperial College London, offers a climate-proof farming alternative. On the other hand, Dainty Grace, an innovative lingerie startup from Queen’s University Belfast, focuses on providing better-fitting bras for small-chested women.
Lu Afolayan, co-founder of Muju Earth, shared her journey into entrepreneurship, inspired by the previous year’s event. She emphasized the impact of witnessing relatable women pitching brilliant ideas with confidence. The Grand Final marked the launch of WE Innovate National, expanding the reach of women’s entrepreneurship initiatives.
The WE Innovate programme is a pre-accelerator designed to support women entrepreneurs in developing new businesses. The six-month program includes masterclasses, business coaching, expert support, and peer mentoring. Sarah Ranchev-Hale, Head of Imperial Enterprise Lab, commended the ten women entrepreneurs who showcased their ventures at the Grand Final.
An expert panel, including industry leaders like Alexsis de Raadt St James and Professor Dame Ottoline Leyser, evaluated the finalists. The event featured a keynote speech by Dame Alison Rose, emphasizing the importance of empowering women in entrepreneurship to boost the UK economy.
The launch of WE Innovate National expanded the initiative to five universities, aiming to support 150 women-led teams annually. This national network seeks to address the underrepresentation of women in entrepreneurship and unlock the full potential of the entrepreneurial economy.
The runners-up received a share of the prize fund to further develop their ventures, with innovations ranging from super-plaster for accelerated healing to AI-powered personalized routine storyboards for children. Various awards were presented, recognizing exceptional entrepreneurial spirit in STEM and outstanding leadership within the WE Innovate program.
WE Innovate continues to foster a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs, with the potential to drive significant economic growth if women were equally represented in the entrepreneurial landscape. The event showcased the diverse range of talents and innovations emerging from universities, underscoring the need to empower women in entrepreneurship for economic prosperity.
