A former student of Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Tnee Chin Kiat, has been sentenced to jail time and caning for his involvement in lingerie photoshoots with girls, one as young as 13, and the molestation of one victim. Tnee, aged 32, received a 27-month jail term and five strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including outrage of modesty and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The court learned that Tnee, while studying part-time and working as a flight engineer, conducted photoshoots in his dormitory room, inviting females to pose in revealing clothing. He also posted online ads seeking models, with one 18-year-old victim responding to his offer. During the photoshoots, which lasted around two hours each, Tnee paid the girls for their participation. However, in one instance, he restrained a victim to his bed, molested her, and disregarded her discomfort.
Another disturbing incident involved Tnee approaching a 13-year-old girl for a photoshoot, despite her initial reluctance. The young girl, feeling pressured, ultimately complied and changed into lingerie for the shoot. Tnee’s actions caused distress to the victim, who received a small sum of money at the end of the session but did not report the incident out of fear.
Tnee’s offenses came to light when he approached an 11-year-old girl for a photoshoot in 2020, leading to his arrest. During the investigation, authorities discovered a significant amount of obscene material on his devices, including child sexual abuse content. Despite claiming he did not consume such material, the court found it unacceptable, justifying the caning sentence.
In his defense, Tnee expressed remorse for his actions and detailed efforts towards personal reform through counseling and meditation. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes and urged Tnee to continue his rehabilitation diligently. Notably, Nanyang Technological University confirmed that Tnee had completed his studies without any prior criminal allegations during his time as a student.
This case underscores the importance of safeguarding individuals, especially minors, against exploitation and highlights the legal consequences of engaging in illicit activities. The sentencing serves as a deterrent, signaling the need for individuals to uphold ethical standards and respect boundaries in all interactions.
